Eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt suffered a ruptured Achilles after he needed to be stretchered off the field of a charity soccer match he was playing in.
Bolt was competing in the Soccer Aid for UNICEF match on Sunday at Stamford Bridge Stadium in London. Bolt was part of the Soccer Aid World XI team that went up against England. Bolt got an assist during the match, which shouldn't come as a surprise considering he has spent some time playing soccer since he stopped running on the track. However, footage from the event posted on social media showed Bolt being taken off the field on a stretcher in the second half. He appeared in good spirits as he recognized the crowd.
Bolt posted on social media after the match that he ruptured his Achilles.
The world's fastest man is likely to be out of competing at athletic events for several months due to his injury, but he won't have to worry about being ready for the 2024 Summer Olympics since he retired from running in 2017.
Bolt won two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, three at the 2012 London Olympics and three at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He owns the world records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, as well as the 4x100-meter relay.
